HSK 5 · Quiz
HSK 5 vocabulary is abstract by nature: logic, contradiction, trend. This quiz flips between recognition and recall, both ways, to check these concepts stay clear even without a sentence for context.
Questions run both ways — Chinese to English and English to Chinese — and stay within the HSK 5 list, so nothing requires vocabulary you haven't studied yet. Many words at this level have close but distinct meanings (矛盾 "contradiction" vs 冲突 "conflict", for example): the quiz helps sharpen those nuances.
Translating 矛盾 (máodùn) as "conflict" every time. 矛盾 describes an internal contradiction — two ideas or facts that don't add up (他的话很矛盾 — "what he's saying is self-contradictory") — while 冲突 (chōngtū) describes a clash between two external parties. The first is often abstract, the second concrete. This distinction, absent in English where "conflict" covers both, is a classic translation trap at this level.

Ideally yes: this quiz assumes the HSK 5 list has already been skimmed at least once.
矛盾 and 冲突 both translate as "conflict" — how does the quiz help tell them apart?
By having them appear in separate questions with their own precise translation — see the panel above.
Does this quiz also test tones?
Not specifically — it tests recognition of meaning and character/pinyin, not tones.
